I suppose I should explain what I mean by "Johnny died in Iraq yesterday"

He's one of my older cousins, and I haven't seen him sense I was very small. All I really remember about him was that he was wearing white socks and they were dirty.
I'm really sad about this (the dying not the socks), and it's not really because I miss him, it's because I'll never get to know him enough to miss him now. I had managed to meet all of my other older cousins for real finally a few years ago, but I'll never get to really meet him in more than a "Aren’t I a really cute toddler" sort of sense. I'm sad about that.
And I'm sad because last time I saw Micah he said "I guess next time I see you it'll probably be a funeral." It was funny because it was true and I don't get to see Micah too much because he lives in Hawaii and I do like to see him but... I didn't want the funeral to be his brother's.
Here's a story.
Micah found out about Johnny from Jessie (I'm totally guessing on that spelling) who is Johnny's wife. He called Tonya and told her because she isn't actually a member of the family, but he didn't have anyone else's number. He got a bottle of something highly alcoholic, went to the beach, got very drunk, and decided he should tell Ben (also Micah’s brother). He went home and wrote Ben an e-mail: "Ben, John is dead." This morning he woke up and called Dawn (their mother) and asked if she had herd from Ben yet. Upon a negative reply, he said that she should probably call Ben, preferably before he checked his e-mail.
Tonya, meanwhile, had called my aunt Rachel to ask if there was anything she could do. "About what?" Rachel wanted to know. Tonya was obviously the most informed because she is not actually a member of the family, but is everybody's friend.
Dawn called my uncle Gene to let him know. "Iraq?" he said, "Sense when has Johnny been in Iraq?"
Jessie has been duking it out with the Army in the mean time. Johnny hated being in the Army. She does not think it would be particularly respectful to him to have him buried in his uniform in Arlington. She wants him to be buried in Tennessee; they were going to move there when he was out.
We're not dysfunctional, we're just different-functional.
And I'm not sure what to do.
